Circumcision Information

What are the benefits of circumcision?

Some of the benefits of circumcisions are:

  • Increased hygiene

  • Reduction in HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)

  • Reduction in Penile Inflammation and Retractile Disorders

  • Reduction in Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)

  • Reduction in Risk of Some Cancers

What are the risks of circumcision?

  • Like any medical procedure, newborn circumcision carries some risks, though complications are rare when performed by an experienced practitioner. The most common risks include minor bleeding, mild pain or discomfort, and temporary redness or swelling at the site. Less commonly, there may be infection, improper healing, or too much or too little foreskin being removed. Very rarely, more serious complications such as injury to the glans or urinary issues can occur. These risks are significantly reduced with proper technique, sterile equipment, and careful aftercare. Parents are encouraged to discuss any concerns with their healthcare provider to make an informed decision that aligns with their values and their baby’s well-being.

What technique is used at CircSante?

  • At CircSante, we use the Mogen clamp tehcnique. The Mogen clamp technique is a safe, quick, and effective method of newborn circumcision that has been used for decades by healthcare professionals around the world. This technique involves gently pulling the foreskin forward and placing the Mogen clamp— a precision surgical instrument—over it to shield the glans and minimize bleeding. Once secured, the foreskin is trimmed in a single motion, resulting in a clean and symmetrical outcome. The entire procedure typically takes just a few minutes and is performed under local anesthesia to ensure your baby’s comfort. The Mogen clamp is widely respected for its simplicity, efficiency, and low complication rates, making it a preferred option for many families seeking a gentle and professional circumcision experience.

Post-procedure considerations

  • After the circumcision, proper post-procedure care is essential to ensure a smooth recovery and optimal healing. The doctor will provide clear, step-by-step instructions on how to care for the area, including how to apply ointment, how often to change the diaper, and what signs to look for that may require follow-up. Most babies recover quickly, with any redness or mild swelling resolving within a few days. During the appointment, the doctor will take the time to explain the entire process in detail, answer all your questions, and make sure you feel confident and supported. This personalized approach helps ensure that parents are well-prepared and that the baby has the best possible outcome.
